These screenshots are from a old total conversion called - Chemical Existence. I'm posting about it because I don't see it talked about ever really but it should be IMO.

It's not the best TC you'll ever play but it's decent and feels like a totally new game. It has voice acting, cinematics and a story so it feels like a well rounded experience. The weapons feel impactful especially since you can decapitate people with headshots. There are multiple human factions in the city so you get to see fights that would be similar to hgrunt vs massassin vs xen in HL. The voice acting is corny but passable and the level design is mostly intuitive and looks good enough.

I'd definitely recommend this game to any retro FPS and HL fans, it won't blow your mind but it has that delicious and ambitious game/TC feel to it.

I actually had a disc copy of CE back in the day but I have never been able to find photos of it online, if anyone has it or even had it in the past I'd be keen to hear from you!

Here is the download link and a link to an HD mod. I haven't tried the HD mod and I feel it would sort of defeat the purpose of playing old mods (for myself, at least) if used in the first playthrough but I'll def try it after I finish the game again.

A few years ago I bought a few Windows XP PCs and I've been using them to play classic games and one of the main games I play is Half-life.

The nostalgia from the WON menu hit me like a ton of bricks when I first booted it up. I remember playing HL1 for the first time on New Years Eve 1999/2000. I was 10 at the time. There was a South Park marathon on TV at the same time so I watched that while my dad and uncle installed HL1 from an old HP CD-R.

I've been playing through a shit load of mods and maps. I've been screenshotting a whole lot and I will use these screenshots on a website I'm making. I had a geocities page back in the day (that I can no longer find) where I would put different game screenshots that I found. I want to re-create that nostalgia too so I'm building a 90s cheesy, sorta-geocities style, but useable with no annoying music etc, site for me to:

a) Link to maps and mods for HL1 WON.
b) Write reviews for HL1 maps and mods after I play them on my XP machine
c) Host screenshots I take in-game just like I did back when I was 10 or 11

I'll chuck the link on this site once it's up but honestly I don't expect anyone to use it. I just like writing and making stuff so it's a bit of fun for me. The useful aspect would be the links to mods and maps that may be difficult to find now.

Most everyone on this site probably knows of MarphyBlack but I'm sure some don't so I'm linking his 'Half-Life Fact Files' playlist here. The videos explore specific features that most people aren't aware of or aren't working in the retail release. An example of this is the smell system for the AI which you can still partially experience (NPCs commenting on the stench of bodies) but was intended to be more robust. What makes these videos especially great is how he restores cut features and c…

It just occurred to me why he 9mmar only has 25 rounds in the mag when you pick it up, it's supposed to reflect the fact that the hgrunts had already fired the gun..

This may be common knowledge but it legit didn't click for me until just last night, only took 24 years x_x

Half-Life - Full Audio Remaster moddb.com/games/half-life/addons… I've been using this audio remaster, made by Senn, for the last few days and man, is it ever awesome... It uses the original audio but massively improves the quality, here is the description as per Senn: "Dedicated to faithfully remastering all the low quality sound effects and dialogue from Half-Life, Blue Shift and Opposing Force. Monsters. Machinery. Scientists. You…

Here's a very different and strange Xash3D mod - Quake Remake. This is a full port of Quake 1 to goldsrc via Xash3D. What makes it especially interesting in my eyes is just how much goldsrc DNA you can feel in the game.

On the surface, it's basically the same game but if you have spent a decent chunk of time with Quake and HL1/other goldsrc games you'll probably be able to spot quite a few differences. Things like Scrags bleeding yellow and their projectile leaving the bullsquid impact, different screen effects for explosions, ability to spray logos and the list goes on.

The movement is goldsrc rather than Quake so they're similar but definitely different. You'll also see some behavioral changes both for monsters and weapons. I think the Nailgun fires at the same speed as the MP5 so that's a big change right there.

All of these changes feel incidental rather than deliberate. I think they're a byproduct of porting the whole game to goldsrc. There's also a number of mods and addons in moddb that I haven't explored just yet but definitely will.

If you're a big Quake fan who has also played a lot of Half-Life 1 then I would highly recommend checking out this bizarre little port. Let me know what cool and strange things you guys find! I'm gonna play through all 4 episodes myself so I'll be sure to share some stuff I find as well :)

Here's some screenshots of my recent, and first, Azure Sheep playthrough in HL WON. I'm running a P4 and Geforce mmx440. I take a load of screenshots of my mod playthroughs but unfortunately I can only post 4 at a time here so I'll save the rest for something else. I'll choose 4 screenshots from each mod that I play and I'll post it here :)

I've seen people talking about jb mod in this thread - community.lambdageneration.com/h… - and thought I should share this video to shed some light on the mod and the very common misconceptions about it. It's an interesting watch, I won't spoil any of it but setting aside 10min to watch it, even if you don't play Gmod (I fall into this category).

Original Post:

I'm trying to improve my bhopping and general goldsrc movement however I'm having difficulty finding jump maps/kz maps. I have managed to get a handful of maps (6 maps total) like ztricks but I know there are heaps more out there.

I'm looking for more noob friendly maps, stuff like giantbean and gigablock for cs. I'm not terrible at movement but I'm not good enough to be able to do runs of most of the maps I've found.

I've checked rstl, gamebanana and moddb by searching for "kz" and "jump" but came up short. I checked sourceruns and found quite a few maps referenced but no actual download links

Any help would be hugely appreciated!
