I feel like people complicate the HLA ending. I’m only posting this because of Tyler McNerd posting that video about GMan and all that today. Here’s what I think happened: There was no split timelines. The GMan lost control of Gordon, he needed a replacement and Eli alive. His employers couldn’t just let him fix it himself, because that’s almost never the case where he does it himself. Instead he goes back in time to make Alyx do it for him, fires Gordon and simultaneously hires Alyx. He doesn’t kill or replace or get rid of HL2 Alyx. He just sends HLA Alyx back to Earth without a memory of what happened, same way he gives orders to Alyx in Episode 2 without her remembering. HL2 Alyx is HLA Alyx.
