I feel like people complicate the HLA ending. I’m only posting this because of Tyler McNerd posting that video about GMan and all that today. Here’s what I think happened: There was no split timelines. The GMan lost control of Gordon, he needed a replacement and Eli alive. His employers couldn’t just let him fix it himself, because that’s almost never the case where he does it himself. Instead he goes back in time to make Alyx do it for him, fires Gordon and simultaneously hires Alyx. He doesn’t kill or replace or get rid of HL2 Alyx. He just sends HLA Alyx back to Earth without a memory of what happened, same way he gives orders to Alyx in Episode 2 without her remembering. HL2 Alyx is HLA Alyx.

I think at this point it's all speculation and fan theories of what actually happened to the Half-Life overall timeline because the moment writers of any game, novel or series decides to mess with time travel things can go out of control or shape up pretty interesting depending how the writes goes with it. I also believe it may lies on the multiverse in Valve franchises (I remember seeing something related to this in those Portal 2 ads videos). We still don't know who the Gman is, who are their employees and such. Still, I recall a good fan theory where the Advisors are against the Gman which may explains his actions on Alyx and future HL games. Only Valve time will tell and I can't wait how they will work this out!

Yeah true, I just think logically speaking and based on how Alyx acts when given orders by the GMan in Episode 2, my theory is most probable. HOWEVER! I could be completely wrong and Valve says something that’s the exact opposite lmao. I’d be fine with that too because I trust their vision

G-Man should've just got Shepard out of stasis

I haven't watched this video but I feel like we have no idea how the universe works in Half-life 2. It's possible that it is a multiverse, it is possible that it's a causal loop, as shown in this illustration: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c… and we just don't see the *whole picture* yet, like, I get the feeling that it would be narratively appropriate if we, the players, were responsible for putting Gman in the situation where he is captured by the Combine at a later point in the series, and maybe we'll learn how Alyx came back, maybe it will all make sense in the course of time. It's also possible that things simply get overwritten. My go-to example of that, is that at the end of Half-life 2 Gordon was supposed to be in stasis and that should have been the end of that. But then, as the Gman is about to give his speech at the start of Gordon's next job, the Vorts interfere and the Episodes happen instead, and it would appear that the ending of Half-life 2 was entirely snapped out of reality, with the events remaining the same.

Possibly. I think that could very well be true

I'm okay with whatever HL:A does. Because I'll never put on a VR set on my face or care about its existence.
