Wish you'd just ban this garbage tbh

We have - it’s in our rules AI content cannot be posted or passed as artwork. Hence the moderation warning.

I feel like it should be banned from the site as a whole tbh banning it from the art categories doesn’t really do much

and as you can see here despite the category change and warning from staff it's still being rewarded while actual art with talent put into it is ignored by most.

The problem is this dilemma still applies to (non AI) shit posts and memes. We’re wanting our site to be focused on more high quality and original content (unlike mainstream platforms like X and Reddit which seem to thrive off memes), but it does often feel an uphill battle It’s why our team goes to a lot of effort to feature (which boosts posts in the feed) and promote legit art. Ultimately it feels we’re going against human nature, and this problem exists universally right now, with indie sites like us doing our best to steer things back towards legit content.

We have considered it, but we’re trying our best to achieve a middle ground that isn’t a moderation nightmare. What I will say is that our site goes to far greater efforts to rid AI content from fan art (as happened here). Most mainstream sites, Inc X, Reddit and Bluesky have no rules against posting AI art, and to some extent even encourage it. Even DeviantArt has caved in. We will never facilitate AI art replacing legit fan art on LG.

I don’t understand why there needs to be a middle ground for it, though AI “art” is generally awful, and this site already has hundreds of extremely talented artists, and allowing GenAI to be posted here just feels a tad strange considering that

As mentioned AI posts are banned in art categories as per our rules ( community.lambdageneration.com/r… ), along with art theft. We’ve done this (because unlike many mainstream platforms) we don’t believe AI art should appear in art categories traditionally used by real artists. However, we cannot ban everything that is considered low effort or low quality - this is what likes and featuring is for, for the public to decide. I hope you can appreciate whilst this isn’t a blanket ban, we have far stricter AI art and art theft rules than any other platform I can think of. We will likely continue to develop more features in the future to help real artists get exposure they deserve.

and I understand that they're banned from art categories but I feel like they fall outside of low effort/quality, sure yeah they are, but I feel like you can ban GenAI "art'' without banning all things considered low quality/effort no? I do appreciate there being a ban at all it is more than most sites, but I still just don't understand allowing it at all

I would imagine that Miyazaki is against AI art, but that specific quote is from a clip from 9 years ago, in which he criticized a program that animated characters with horrible spasms movements... this clip was much before the rise of ChatGPT and generative AI, but it's being taken out of context everywhere.
