I am very dismayed to hear of the passing of the great Viktor Antonov, the amazingly talented art director for Half-Life 2, Dishonored and several other classic titles. His work was a great inspiration for many including myself, and I even used his work in a small part of a wider artist case study I did for the final assignment of my first year during my art and design course in 2021. I’m very saddened to hear about Viktor Antonov’s passing.
This was a huge shock given his recent appearance in the Half-Life 2 20th anniversary documentary.
Viktor was a huge inspiration to me, especially during my years studying architecture. I actually wrote my 2nd year dissertation on his work, given I had interest in potentially going in to game design - with him being my idol to that.
It is fair to say he made Half-Life 2 very special.

Deeply sadened to learn about Viktor Antonov's death.
The vision he brought to Half-Life 2 cemented my absolute passion for this saga. As a frenchman, I was deeply proud to learn how he took inspiration from the Austerlitz train station in Paris for City 17's own train station.

Viktor was a visionary designer and artist. His work inspired a generation of game designers, artists and gamers, including ourselves.
