Antonov was truly a marvel. Here are my favorite HL2 beta concept arts from him. I really like that old citadel design, it looks so simple at a first glance, yet when you look at it deeply, it's so intricate. On the other pictures, you can see metrocops rushing, in high alert, they are coming from, a big door, really makes you wonder, what is behind that door, where are they going? And my favorite is the last image, human architecture torn apart, red sky from so many portals opening up. You can see the smoke coming from a smaller building, and you can see really well, how the 7-Hour War is going, how powerful the Combine really is, and how the biggest buildings that humanity made, being torn apart in seconds. Rest In Peace.

I've just learned today that Viktor Antonov, Half-Life 2's video game art director and concept artist, has passed away at the age of 53.
Thanks to him, he managed to create the whole dystopian and unique atmosphere of City 17 in Half-Life 2.
Rest In Peace, Viktor.

"In fact, within a city, there are 1,000 different cities that exist in the same physical space. It's fascinating."

Recently saw the news that Viktor Antonov, the designer and the artist of HL2, had passed away. Rest in peace, legend. Hope you see Rick May and others.

We are extremely saddened to hear the passing of Viktor Antonov.

Viktor was a visionary designer and artist. His work inspired a generation of game designers, artists and gamers, including ourselves.

Half-Life 2 would not be what it is without him.

RIP.

Deeply sadened to learn about Viktor Antonov's death.

The vision he brought to Half-Life 2 cemented my absolute passion for this saga. As a frenchman, I was deeply proud to learn how he took inspiration from the Austerlitz train station in Paris for City 17's own train station.

Viktor Antonov proved with his creative genius that video game is indeed art. That it's a crossroad of many artistic skills to create even more art.

With his vision and artistic genius, he helped to shape one of the most mythical, beloved and respected video game ever. And of course let's not forget also about Dishonored.

His loss will be deeply felt both by the industry but also by the players.

Thanks for giving us City 17 Viktor. We will never forget you and your amazing work. May you rise and shine in a much better and less sad world and bless it with your creative genius like your did in ours.
