Friendly reminder that in Jeff's early concepts he would possess a tentacle about popping out of his head. Although it is unknown if it would have a use, such as attacking or something, we can assume that like the tentacle and Jeff share the same sensory characteristics they could help each other when it comes to detecting the enemy.
The Black Mesa-White Forest Satellite Array “After Gordon launched the Rocket Satellite at Black Mesa, it became part of the eventual Xenium Resonator that was built by Dr. Magnusson 20 years later. The aim was to link both rockets together to form a array system connection, to close the Combine Superportal in Episode 2. The difference being that the Black Mesa version was built with cooperation from NASA, while the White Forest Rocket was built out of existing post-soviet materials.”
