Alright, I know some people probably want to kill me for this- but last year. I have been playing the first Portal game for 4 years, without ever knowing there was a sequel. I knew that Half-Life existed, but at that time I want into shooters with guns because I feared I would be bad at them. September 2020, I find out about Portal 2 and play the hell out of it. I loved it so much that I even gave Half-Life a shot- and as of now I have played every single Half-Life/Portal title to date.
It was actually pretty fun. Unfortunately, NPC weapons in Portal don't work, and a lot of the sounds are missing. I wasn't allowed to buy Half-Life, so my next step was to install CM2013 using Portal as a base, and voila: fully functional HL2.
It's a long story (the short answer is 2015 and 2016):
When I was 11 years old (mid 2015) I used to have an Xbox 360 which only brought Demos ramdom. There was one time I noticed one called "Orange Box", which was also a Demo and the only game available in the package was the HL2:EP2 Demo. I was very attracted to the visual style of the game and especially the Gravity Gun. After that Demo, I also had the Demo of "Portal: Still Alive", so I played it as well. (1/2)
In that same year, my father pawned that Xbox along with a PS2 and a Wii.
In early 2016, I remembered those old times and got curious to look up Portal and download it pirated. When I finished it, I was satisfied and at the same time I was not, because I had the doubt of what "the other game" was called. Researching, I discovered Half-Life and I was also fascinated that it connected with the Portal saga. From then on, I became a big fan and I even have all Valve games 100% legal. (2/2)
And come to think of it, I thought it had been longer from playing it on Xbox to playing it on PC. I guess so much had happened to me in 2015 that I lost track of time and felt like it had been years, when it hadn't.

Early 2010s-ish? I would have been, what, 12? 14? My first foray into Half-Life territory was spawning HL2 NPCs from Portal's console lol
Imagine how disconcerting it would be to know that there were zombies inside Portal and to be able to place them with the console XD

2006 and my life has been ruined ever since.
Uhh, 2020, a bit late I guess lmao.
Better late than never!
