Lets pour one out for the fallen GoldSource solders that fell victim to the 25th anniversary update: Counter-Strike Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes Day of Defeat Half-Life: Blue Shift Deathmatch Classic and all of the menus for everything but Half-Life 1. Will it be fixed? Yeah, probably. Hopefully sooner than later.
You can fix this! Right click Half Life Go to Properties Got to Beta section Choose beta in the tab (on your top right) Then boom! You can replay the Goldsource games!
A bandaid is not a fix.
?
The ironic bit is... I have more issues with the menu than the actual update contents. Everything done to HL is a positive change (though, there's still stuff to be fixed that I am sure will be addressed.) I just wished they actually verified that these changes would not affect other titles.
Has anyone tried playing Half-Life Blue Shift with client.dll from the original Half-Life? I just removed the client.dll from Blue Shift and it works. You can go through the full tutorial and the opening chapter seems to work without errors, I haven't checked further. Of course there is no blue HUD, but that seems to be the only thing in the client.dll from HLBS.
True, as blue-shift is basically a hl mod with no code modifications, isn't it?
no
what are the changes then? Because there are no new enemies/weapons
env_warpball item_helmet item_armorvest monster_rosenberg trigger_playerfreeze
In HLBS are changes in the code, for example there is monster_rosenberg which works like monster_scientist, but the voice is always the same. And there is also an entity in the game that completely freezes control for player, but the entity crashes the game if we save after trigger it and load this save (but the entiti is used only in the end of the game, so no one will want to save there). And there are new entiti like armor and helmet. But all this is in hl.dll, and in client.dll only the blue HUD. But perhaps not only that.
Thanks for the explanation. I always thought it was just base hl code with new assets.
I'm worried Valve is going to be a little shitty about this, since they have a rep for breaking mods with updates. They'll either remain silent for years, or actually state "just use the legacy branch -- that's what it's there for."
It's understandable for random mods, but they have titles they actually sell on steam not working.
