The Valve rules of canonicity: 1. The first and last games of a series are canon. Everything else is up for debate. 2. Tech demos are non-canon unless otherwise specified. 3. If there is self-contradiction present, it's probably canon. 4. Canon does not exist, and therefore nothing is canon. 5. The only exceptions to the rules of canonicity are exceptions to the rules of canonicity. 6. All of the above is irrelevant because it will never be properly applied. I hope this is unhelpful.
