As far as Eli knew, Gordon could’ve aged in stasis. He was asking his 47 year old friend to take his ‘crowbar’ into his 21 year old daughter’s ’white forest’.
The only way his whole thing can be percieved as reasonable is if he had prior knowledge of how Gordon's stasis worked but given HLA, I don't think thats true lmao
I mean Alyx wasn't a character until HL2 so it's normal to just ignore the fact that she was 4 during the Black Mesa incident, as on the collective consciousness, she's what we see on HL2 and HLA
And also we don't see to much of this "Freemance" on the games, apart from the moments on Dark Matter at the End of Hl2 and on the citadel core in Episode 1, and Alyx just beign kind towards Gordon, but the developers tried to let clear for us the players the fact that Alyx has developed certain feelings about Gordon.
I think that scene in HL2 you mentioned is just showing that Alyx cares about Gordon, not that she's developing romantic feelings for him, which makes a lot of sense since Gordon helped rescue Eli like twice.
Yes, i think it's weird because of Eli, he just hinting that sort of "stuff" about his own daughter and someone he has admiration?, of some sort, or well, feels proud of such as Gordon.
