Possibly one of Ted Backman's inspiration for Xen, from the novel Expedition 1990. I hope we get to see Xen again in Valve's next Half-Life title.

Source? Had no idea about this especially since multiple sources claim that this was a big inspiration for the making of Xen.

I kinda think so, since there isn't any other source of big hit inspiration that gaben could of gotten frim since 1997 specially for the original xen architecture such as the "Xen Tree" (Quite similer to the Butchertree) "Xen Flora" (What is similer to the Gourd Tree)

I love Black Mesa but I personally don't see it as canon, I prefer the old grotesque yet still peaceful vision of Xen.
