I've only told friends why I started making HL1 maps for gmod but never stated it publicly, so here it is, the explanation no one asked for. If this isn't the right section for this, I'll move it to whatever is the right section. Basically in late 2015 I was finding myself annoyed by the lack of creativity in existing in HL1 gmod maps at the time. They usually took place in Sector C or areas along Gordon's journey, meanwhile HL1 mods were making their own areas for almost 2 decades at that point. (I wanna clarify I don't hate those maps and they actually tended to be very competently made, just wish they didn't fall back on Sector C.) So I decided to do it myself, releasing gm_hl1_lily_blackmesa on April 1st, 2016. I'd release a few more maps in 2016 and then a Xen-focused one in 2017.
