Oh yeah questionable ethics has to be one of my faves, learning that they were testing on all the xen wildlife before the cascade. It picks the pace back up after residue processing and I like how it all takes place in the one testing facility and how you loop back to the start with the scientists. Also it gets big props for introducing the gauss cannon. (The HECU ambush in the remake is also one of my favourite moments in a HL game ever, just makes you feel like a complete and utter badass)
If it has action in it, then I like it. For this reason, Surface Tension and Forget about Freeman are my favourite chapters.
I also like Gonarch's Lair. Not as action packed as the others I said but I still like it.
It also has the iconic "FOR GOD'S SAKE OPEN THE SILO DOORS! THEY'RE COMING FOR US AND IT'S OUR ONLY WAY OUT! OH MY GOD WE'RE DOOMED!". You can't hate a chapter that gave us such amazing voice acting like that.
People who say Surface Tension is their favorite chapter usually only play the first 2 or so maps when all of the later maps like c2a5f have some of the worst mapping in the entire game.
Surface Tension
Reasons : There's a lot of things going on around in a single chapter, like from the HECU is now all force against Freeman and the Xenians and to the moment where the HECU is now struggling against both forces
Interesting choice! I do like how it acts as a halfway marker and starts the second power curve of the game, Gordon slowly making his way up through the waste facility and getting all his weapons back. The conveyor belt room is an especially memorable setpiece, probably due to how large and convoluted it is.
It's actually one of the most nonlinear chapters in the game and has several different and interesting routes you can take to tackle certain areas which I've always liked. It has some cheap traps, but I've never really understood the overt hatred for the chapter. I honestly dislike Surface Tension quite a bit, and it's the one I always check out at on new playthroughs of the game.
Honestly, I like questionable ethics.

On A Rail I really like this chapter after replaying the game many times
I do think all the branching paths are pretty cool. Plus it gets points for having that rocket launch at the end!
Interloper
I always found Interloper to be overhated, it was cool seeing all the abstract xen environments and that factory section with the vortigaunts
(I was joking)
You have provoken a gang war
whoops

*Jungle drums intensify*
I always found this a hard question, but probably Questionable Ethics
it's a hard tie between Office Complex and We've Got Hostiles
I like Forget About Freeman, although i have no idea why
Black Mesa Inbound
Can't go wrong with that iconic opening, I think the whole layout is permanently ingrained into every HL fan's head
The Office Warrens because Half life Alpha
Those red headcrabs simply hit different 😫👌
idk about you guys but i like we've got hostiles chapter. it gives off very epic vibes with its cool firefights

How so?
I love epic battles
