Hot take: If you make an HD texture mod for HL1, you shouldn't AI upscale. It always looks goofy and bad, and this is on top of the challenge of making HD textures look good on the low-poly geometry in the first place.

I would even say thay apply to Half Life 2 aswell. For both things they should be recreated, or found alike with higher definition.
