Here's a trick to help easily tell if a user that sent you a friend request is a bot on Steam:
Click on the far right button of their tf2 achievements to check their actual in-game time. SAM can be used to easily fake achievements, but faking game stats is more difficult and most bot accounts will not have data like this.
