honestly, idk why yall are so upset. its a free dlc to portal and it was obviously made to show of the tech. "remaster" is just the right word for this kind of stuff
The problem is that it seems like most people who play video games nowadays only care about how shiny and bright a game is. "OOOH REAL TIME SHADOWS AND REFLECTIONS ON EEEVERY SURFACE IMAGINABLE" I don't want this to end up overshadowing Portal because people who discover Portal for the first time choose the RTX version over the original. I mean, Portal 2 already overshadows Portal 1 anyway. It's like those people who play Half-Life 2 for the first time by using a half-assed VR mod for Garry's Mod.
i mean, if they kept true to the artstyle they wouldn't be able to show anything that rtx is capable of. i think its generous that nvidia and valve give fans the option to make it look how they want it to
I personally don't understand why people are upset about it. It's not replacing the original version, if you want to admire the aesthetic and atmosphere of the OG you still can. It's like complaining about a Portal mod that replaces the materials with Portal 2 ones, It's there but you don't have to use it.
Also once the Modding Tool is released people who are dedicated enough can make a version that has remastered PBR materials that are more faithful to the original materials.
cool tech that'll be better put to use by the community. shame that they'd rather show off their cool effects than respect the original style, especially for a remaster

It being free doesn't mean you can't criticize it.
i mean, yeah. but getting cooked over nothing is just funny

I know it sounds like I'm overreacting, and I probably am. You gotta take this stuff into consideration though.
but you do you. i can play it btw, but i wont. so i dont really care that much about it
fair enough. It's okay if you enjoy it. I personally really hate it and I'm afraid it'll overshadow the original in the modern gaming era.
