Barney may have escaped Black Mesa, but was then forced to go through the hell of the 7 hours war and then try and survive the next 20 years before Gordon reappeared. Looking at it like that, even though Gordon didn't exactly have it easy either, it at least felt like only a week had passed for him with all mainline games combined and didn't have to struggle in that 20 year period. Barney on the other hand had to witness and withstand ALL of it. Every single moment of the Combine slowly destroying everything and using anything left only for themselves until it shrivels up and dies, so that they can abandon it and move on to ruin another planet like it's tuseday for them. For Gordon it was a flash. For Barney a fucking lifetime he'll never get back.
YOU REALLY GET IT!! ik black Mesa was terrifying for everyone but DAMN did Barney have to go through that and more x10. If anyone deserves to see this whole thing through to the very end it should be him. He deserves rest and peace more than anyone. But all of this makes me admire him. He's a survivor and it's what he does best. No G-man, no HEV suit, nothing except the desire to push forward and survive.

Something that felt a little odd to me was the way everyone in hl2 celebrated Gordon like he's a divine being, fellas... You had a hero in your midst the entire time and he's doing his best over here!! Can you guys like... Appreciate him? He sacrificed so much and went through so much and Gordon is getting all the glory. (No offense, Gordon. We love you) That's what makes him feel like an Unsung Hero to me. Barney has always been there helping others, but gets so little in return in terms of recognition within the universe itself (fandom wise he's very loved, at least ๐ญ)
Louder for the people in the back, heck yeah. He's almost completely forgotten in episode 2, where did his train even go? Gordon did a great deal but like, don't forget what our dear chap Barn did too, c'mon
Barney's had it tough, he was traumatised be everything, the black mesa incident, the 7-hour war, the CAT. And what did he get? A small but good spinoff, and a few iconic quotes. I know you hear this a lot, but your art is awesome man. Feel bad for Barnabus, he's had it tough. Very sad for Barniah
The cat ๐ but yeah I wish he was given more attention especially in hl2 and their episodes. It was so weird to not even hear him mentioned at all in episode 2. We're just left to wonder where he is now and what happened to the train he was on. I really hope Valve gives him some more love cuz they went through the effort of making him his own character and ppl really like him.
