Originally wanted to create the mod in source or source 2. At the time (this was before CS2 released) there wasnt as many tutorials for creating entities/maps/missions.
As for Source 1, anyone whos used Source 1 can tell you how much of a nightmare it is to use. Something as simple as building a curved road can take you hours in Source compared to using the landscape spline tool in Unreal Engine where you can just click on spots on a landscape and it will automatically generate a road for you.
I actually use Source 1 and no, making a curved road doesn't take "hours", there's an arch tool in Hammer and a keyboard bind for getting the texture to line up to the curve. It sounds like you gave up too quickly.
Maybe hours is an exaggeration but you cant tell me Source is easy compared to modern engines. I didn't give up on anything. I used my time more efficiently.
This is cool but, why not just make it in Source?
