just start with something simple. how I started mapping was by watching a tf2 mapping tutorial by I think ueakcrash or something like that and once I thought I had learned enough I made my own map by myself. I kept doing this while wanting to learn new things and I just kept getting better and better as I continued mapping. You just have to start small and learn new things.
