I greatly prefer Half-Life 1. It has this magic with the expansions, seeing everything from different angles is so magical. And when different protagonists see each other or areas are revisited, it's just so, so cool. It makes the whole world feel alive and more real. Half-Life 2 doesn't really have that.
Have you ever played the mod Point of View? There's this great moment where you emerge from a hangar just in time to see Shephard's Osprey crash into the electric fence, its probably my favorite part of the mod and reminiscent of the Gearbox expansions.
HL2 hits closer to home for me since it's the whole reason I got into the series, I never had the pleasure to grow up with HL1 so it doesn't give me the same feeling that the second game does, but I have still played it many times and it is a very enjoyable experience.

HL1, but it’s very tough as both are masterpieces.
I agree 100%, both games are amazing but I also like half life 1 just for the story

I like HL1 more than HL2 because it establishes the story and all that, and I'm a big fan of origin-type things.

understandable, I'm relatively new to the franchise but I hope to have great memories with them as well in the future
HL2, better setting, better graphics, better gameplay and physics and more characters
I like both, but my favorite is HL1 because of the aesthetics and because is the game i played most of the franchise.
half life 2 because I can get mmod. when hl1 mmod remastered comes out I'll be playing that though.
HL2 was the first one I played and therefore has a special place in my heart, but they're both amazing games

Hmmm.. both. Thay are different... welll, maybe I prefer HL1 because I was little and things impress us more when we are young
