This is actually accurate to how shadows from light works in general, the closer an object is to a light source, the sharper it's shadow, although the difference shown here seems more dramatic than I'd think, maybe because the higher object is a straight line?
On low setting shadows are all pre-rendered, which results in more realistic looking shadows than the real time ones on higher settings
