Been over a decade since the Half-Life 2 leak happened, many things were discovered or made from it including the many mods that attempt to restore the original version of the game with its late 90s/early 2000s dark sci-fi cyberpunk themes. yet all of them always seem to either get abandoned long before they are considered finished, or never even make it past conceptual phase. closest game that gives off similar vibes to it is 2007's TimeShift (rain-soaked war torn american city, slightly futuristic with some industrial elements, suit-wearing protagonist helping resistance, antagonist propaganda all around...etc) although it is still missing things like the Air Exchange and Wastelands of Dried up Oceans. So what's the current state of this whole "Half Life 2 Beta" thing? are you a fan of this version of the game? do you think it'll ever see a proper finished version someday? or is this concept just not working?
