Coming up to 2 years on this website, thought I'd redo my Half-Life 1 chapter tier list since I've had a change of heart for a few of them. Yes, I think On a Rail is a good chapter. I can feel the disagreements already.

good maybe try hl2
Damn, I'm the opposite, I HATE blast pit, I found it so boring.
I just love how it's an environmental boss fight, also the break in pace right after the very action focused "We've got hostiles" is nice, no HECU or Vortigaunts to be seen making it a more relaxed chapter yet also having good set pieces and some memorable moments, burning some alien tentacles with a rocket engine is quite satisfying. Sneaking around the tentacles can be a hit or miss but it works well for me so I enjoy it.
I agree that the idea is cool, but I'm not a fan of the execution, especially the hit or miss part, idnk if it's just me but i never actually learned a way to sneak around the tentacles consistently, it's aways like you said hit or miss, but I have to admit that seeing the rocket burn the thing is very satisfying!
The method I use is fairly consistent but there will always be times they just randomly tap you on the head, if you're patient enough they'll eventually just stop slamming almost entirely.
