While HLX is still in development, Half-Life 2's 20th anniversary is around the corner, and it's giving people a lot of expectations. So I wanna discuss this with you guys. What do you think we'll be getting for this anniversary? Something like the one Half-Life 1 got or will it be much bigger? Maybe a small but decent sized update? My thoughts and expectations will be in the comments below.

For me, I feel like cut content would be a focus point for the anniversary, it has a dedicated fanbase. The idea of adding cut areas, weapons and enemies to the game as bonuses are plausible. Maybe official approval of mods with cut content on steam? (I'm looking at you Missing Information) There's also the possibility of Valve going for a Doom 1 + 2 update, putting both episodes and deathmatch into Half-Life 2 where you can access them via menu screen. That or there will be a documentary about HL2 like the first game.

I feel very in the 'middle' regarding this whole scenario. I feel like the timing of a new testing branch of Half-Life 2 coinciding so close to the 20th anniversary of the game seems like too much of a coincidence, especially since the 25th anniversary for HL1 *just* happened. I think the 20th anniversary of HL2 would also be more than a perfect time for Valve to make some sort of announcement regarding HLX at the very least, but I feel like despite others really wanting confirmation, I'd rather Valve stay silent and continue development without much fanfare or pressure from the public. Either way, I'd really enjoy a revamp of HL2 just as HL1 did as some of the features that have been lost from HL2 overtime make me very sad. For example, I don't know how they'd really accomplish this, but I wish that songs carried over between maps because I'll constantly find myself disappointed when the songs just cut instead of following through to other maps like they did in HL1. Also small texture polishes and restorations, animation fixes, any other bugs, stuff like that! I'm not expecting as massive of an overhaul like they did with HL1, but honestly any direct attention to the games that isn't just small engine bugfixes I think would be amazing. Whatever happens, it sure is an exciting time to be a Half-Life fan!!
