i feel bad for Rebels who bands together as a squad in a means to protect themself and YOU. maybe i die a once, couple and multiple times but in the end ill survive the fight with hordes of combines cheats or not, but the others who took bullets for me cannot retry because they are not the players. just lines of codes and string of events wrapped inside a model of a human, they are a simplified version of an actual person they're coded to help, guide and protect the player and i as the player need them because i am in desperate need of ammo, health, backups, abit of light comment after a tough fight or simply so you aren't alone (people tend to gloss over how lonely you actually are in hl2)

apologize if it doesn't make much sense, i haven't slept

It makes perfect sense to me. And yeah I feel bad for them, generally, for all the hell they have to go through and the lack of plot armor they have that we get to have as the main character. But as they try to help me and protect me, I do my best to help and protect them too 🥺💜

Very odd. Lot of ppl shared a lot of great stories with me about their journies with their npc squads. They can stay alive if you're not just using them as a shield or something. Personally I managed to keep most the npcs alive (may or may not have to reload saves multiple times xD) Plus I was very invested in their story from Citizens to rebels and their uprising. All of that made me form a pretty strong connection with them, probably more than even Alyx
