For those of you that don’t know, the Gluon Gun in Half Life 1 is based off of the Positron Collider Pack or Proton Pack from the movie Ghostbusters (1984). It’s entity model reference name in the files is even called 	
“weapon_egon“ named after Dr. Egon Spengler who invented the device in the film. 

Here is a comparison between the two, with one being a real life build from the movie I have in my house.

Looks like Valve really likes Ghostbusters, because the Medic in TF2 also has his part too. The Reanimator in MVM and the Medic Gun.
