Hello, new here so will make brief (laptop battery also running low...), Looking to begin work on a semi-serious HLARP server, loosely based off of settings presented by Half-Life: Alyx (quarantine zones, etc etc). Basically, I need some sort of direction and hopefully coming here will help drown out the noise of the current HL2RP playerbase echo chamber. In short, I wanna do something new. What would you (or whoever ends up reading this in the next four years when I've probably abandoned all hope) expect to see in a HL2RP server. Thanks for giving me the time of day, and I look forward to any response headed my way.

well for starters I would love to see ways to make it begginner friendly, it always seem so hard and long to become a CP let alone a higher role, think I'd like so see things more simpler like roles, inventory managenemt, and easyer ways to level up, also can we run faster? usually take SO LONG to get anywhere

Most servers using the Helix codebase, which is what I'm using as well, seem to lock certain factions like Civil Protection and Overwatch behind whitelists, long and drawn out quizzes or even paywalls in the worst case scenario. This is probably due to the fact that these servers are trying to run a serious gamemode (which is what Helix is built for) and want their narrative to run fluently without a hitch. Due to my desire to instead run a semi-serious server, I think I can probably afford to be much more lenient on how players obtain certain roles and ranks. While I'd prefer if factions and ranks were obtained through in-character scenarios, most semi-serious servers allow players to earn XP exclusively through playtime. I'd like to program a system that allows players to earn XP through completing certain tasks (totally not in the same manner as Synapse civic points), though what those tasks might be I have zero clue at the moment. Obviously, tasks harder to complete will yield more XP like kill x amount of combine operatives, arrest y anti-citizens, etc. Players who prefer narrative and character development could also undertake quests like working in the Civil Worker's Union as a foreman or maybe even a landlord of a tenement complex. (Take on x tennants, earn y amount of tokens in rent, etc. Everything is still indev so god knows whether or not this system will make the final cut.) Inventory, thankfully, isn't something I have to stress too much about. Helix has an inventory system built in, and plugins can be installed to make it a bit more dynamic such as a weight system to create space limitations à la Fallout. Also I can tweak player running speed using ULX. :) Thanks a million for your feedback, it definitely helps to keep me ticking along with a project as ambitious as this.
