In my head Cannon, The Combine somehow got hold of this technology, Not necessarily from aperture or Borealis but from research papers of site or by scooping a surviving scientists brain, And then improving upon the technology as they do with everything they get their hands-on
Interesting thing about Lightbridges.....because Episode One came out in 2006, and Portal 2 came out 6 years later. And keeping in mind that they didn't appear in first Portal, that's a very nice detail Valve planned before.
So Black Mesa has been leaking the tech they stole from us? And they sold it to these Combine people?
