According to lore, portal storms began several days after the Resonance Cascade. However there are opinions that there were most likely months after the incident. What do you think about that?

Ehh I like the idea of them happening right after the cascade, as it would really feel like humanity was caught by surprise, with the cascade causing a chain reaction of unfortunate events up until the end of the 7 hour war.

I like this either. And also, what about the xenians? Did they teleported only in Mexico area or invaded the whole planet?

The whole planet.

(Part 3) So the time between the cascade and the global portal storms can range from a few days to a few weeks, in my opinion. It makes sense that the Combine's attention was brought to the situation during all the events of HL1, so it can't be too long.

(Part 2) So how come the portal storms reopen and rage across the Earth? Simple - if the resonance cascade and the Nihilanth could both hold open a connection between Black Mesa and Xen, we can assume that the Combine themselves, with their near limitless power, could do the same to a much larger degree, growing the local storm of Black Mesa to be worldwide. The storms were simply the Combine opening the hole between dimensions wide enough for them to fit through in massive scale.

From HL1, we know that the connection between Earth and Xen was being held open by forces from both Earth and Xen: that being the resonance cascade itself, and the willpower of the Nihilanth, or something like that. Gordon takes care of both sources by initially firing the stabilisation rocket into orbit, then going to Xen and killing the Nihilanth. Using the logic presented to us, we can assume that this stops the portals from Xen to Black Mesa all together.
