I was playing Episode 1 yesterday and I noticed something unusual. Normally a stalker's eyes looks like two small black holes, but this stalker on the train you and Alyx are taking to escape City 17 has a different type of eyes compared to the other stalkers, as you can see in the images.

If anyone has an explanation for this, then write a comment. My personal theory is that this stalker is not 100% a stalker and that he still remembers who he was before the Combine captured him.

It was probably to add more of a horror factor for that specific scene.

Maybe

I took a quick peek in the SDK and I found two models, The standard model and the one in the pod from ep1 I think Bruner is correct in the fact that this updated face model is for extra horror factor as he said it, if it has any significance in lore I do not know, but anyone is free to speculate I guess.

It's kinda cool to know somewhat what the Stalkers actually look like without the metal face plates.

Nice finding! After many cheap scenes in HL2, who would have thought Valve would make a unique model for the scene!

Actually there are a few different models in all the HL2 saga. By example, in Lost Coast the most detailed model is the fisher (i cant remember how its spelled). In HL2 EP2 Eli Vance its a little bit older. Valve really likes to make small details when its about spetiall characters

I think it was just to play up spooks but it could also have abit of symbolism. The black nothing in the eyes nearly all stalkers represents complete lack of humanity and any individual thought. They're hollow shells, and they look the part too. But the one on the train was enraged, startled, and for one moment knocked off standard protocol. A primal fury reemerged from the locked away corners of their Combine picked apart brain. A spark of something natural, something not completely overriden.
