For those who don't know, I've spent the last year writing a prequel novel to A PLACE IN THE WEST. It's called HALF-LIFE - PHASE TRANSITION. It's a full length novel, coming in at ~120k words. I am 30k short of that goal.

It takes place at the very beginning of the Combine occupation, and principally follows a pilot called Ray Casumi, who is transferred from America to Eastern Europe, where he joins a secret science team called Les Enfants Terribles operating on the outskirts of City 17.

It's here he meets APW's heroine, Leyla Poirier, an impetuous but inquisitive young astrophysicist. It's a story about memory, about collaboration, about neo-fascism among the human population, whilst delving heavily into the metaphysical aspects of the HL world.

Memory as a revolutionary act in the face of a totalitarian threat determined to erase humanity's collective consciousness.

And there's Dreyfus, whose history is...complicated. I'm immensely proud of it but I am also immensely nervous. My hope is that the final draft will conclude in January and I'll release from there.

I hope...you'll it.
