Random Trivia: The number of buttons on G-Man's cuffs increases with every game.

In the original Half-Life he had two; this is usually for a more casual suit. In contrast in HLA he has four, which is a more formal style.

They also change from gold to black between HL1 and HL2.

That's very interesting, I never noticed that. I wonder if they were inspired by something specific for his look in HL1. I imagine they are purposefully recreating his outfit in slightly different ways each time to make him feel more "off" when you examine him.

Yeah each model of him has a few differences to his suit. Of course some things can be explained by just the engine/graphics changing... but I thought this was a notable difference.

At the same time, the number of buttons on the front is different. My theory is that there is more than one G-man. It's not just because their suites are different, it's like they act and think slightly differently from each other, or maybe they're alternate versions of each other. Who knows?

Dusk [Government Woman]

I have often contemplated if their are either multiple G-Men or he just duplicates himself (as seen in HLA). Of course it could also be he just changes his suit sometimes. Haha!

Dusk [Government Woman]

Forgot to mention: I have also noted there are slight differences in his personality between the games, leading more credibility to the multiple G-Men theory. Of course he might have just been in varying different moods too. I always thought he was more cheerful in HL1 (tone of voice etc.) Maybe G-Man just thought the resonance cascade was hilarious or something.

Another random funfact about Gman's model in HL2: his hands have a bit "broken" UV for the hands, some of it is overlayed over the suit part of the texture, you can even see it on the screenshot

I find this very interesting. I like the different theories here, but I think it's most likely just an incredibly random coincidence. Odds are that the people making the models just didn't compare that.

SomeDudeNamedMatt

the fuck does he need so many buttons for lmao

Dusk [Government Woman]

Traditionally suits will have 2 to 4 (sometimes 5 nowadays) buttons on the cuffs. If they are working buttons (not just for show) they are called 'surgeon's cuffs', and is usually a sign that the suit is tailor-made.
