A couple days ago I asked about useless Half-Life facts. Now give me the most useful Half-Life facts. Again, this can be about lore, the games themselves, development, etc.

Houndeyes have intricate AI and attack patterns. If you are aware of this, it's quite easy to exploit to your advantage. Houndeyes are spawned in "squads" similar to grunts. Each squad has a specific "squad leader." This can be determined if you come across a group of sleeping houndeyes. The squad leader will not be sleeping, and will instead stay alert for enemies. When you are detected or a sound is made, the squad leader will wake up the other houndeyes. You can also determine the squad leader if one attacks you before any else. This is useful because the strength of houndeye attacks increases based on the size of their squad. If you kill the squad leader, the rest of the houndeyes in the squad will dissolve into individual squads of one. You can tell if you've done this because the shockwaves will turn white. They are a deeper color the larger the squad is. Sorry for this other long-ass chunk of nerd jargon. This is basically what I spend my life doing.

You don't have to fly over this pool, you can take off the train before the stop and walk the catwalk to the right.

Lily McFluffy Butt

Do people really not know that?

For some part of my childhood I didn't =T

That's how you're supposed to do it. The stop is designed to only get you the first time, as a sort of learning experience.

Bloody Body

You can break meet in the freezer and bullsquids will go eat it instead of attacking you.

Bloody Body

meat*

CaptainQuirk26

I knew you could break the meat, but I didn't know about the bullsquids eating it. Commence testing.

Bloody Body

Gargantuas can be killed with explosives.

Lily McFluffy Butt

I actually already knew this. I was a huge coward in games as a kid so I'd stock up on explosives and kill the gargantua in Power Up

I always make sure I've got maxed-out grenades when entering power up. If I don't I go into the tunnels like usual and get MP5 grenades, and then when I come back out I finish it off then. It's because you're supposed to be able to kill the Gargantua when it appears in Xen (twice).

Bloody Body

When you do "Rare Specimen" achievement in Black Mesa, you can just leave the hat next to this silo door until you get back here and open that door.

Bloody Body

You don't have to make a bridge out of boxes here, you can just use one box to get up to the pipe.

CaptainQuirk26

What are you talking about? I always just hop through the pool and bank the damage. Seems easiest.

almost every weapon in HL\Op4 have alternative attack. You can say "Eh ! everybody knows this" but actually i see more and more peoples did not using this "feature"

Lily McFluffy Butt

Do people actually not realize there's alternative attacks? That's just, so weird to me. I grew up with games that always had some sort of alternative fire. And if they didn't, you at least didn't have to reload.

For me to. But for some peoples, they use alt attack or if game show you (grenade launcher on mp5) or if it is obvios (sniper scope). Otherwise, many peoples did not think to press RMB

If you have the patience, you can bring multiple turrets into the Nova Prospekt teleport room.
