Tell me, how did you discover Half-Life?
My story is that my dad found it in a bargain bin and got it for my brother in like 2001. My brother showed it to me when I was a kid and we played the multiplayer a lot.
I played the demo of Half-Life 2 a couple of years ago and loved it, It bought the episodes and loved them as well, I played Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and also loved it and join a small community that plays almost nightly and still makes maps, custom playermodels, and sourcemods to this day.
I saw my friend’s dad playing it, and asked my parents for it.
I was very young at the time and they are ashamed of that fact, which I regularly remind them of.
I remember the first glimpse of the game being the room in Blast Pit where the elevator falls. My friends Dad was on a blind run and fell for it. Remember thinking how cool the Black Mesa facility was and wanted to explore it..
I think I've already been seeing HL3 memes as a kid like a decade ago? But then there was this one Terraria mod that used to use a remix of Hard Technology Rock for one of its bosses, as well as me discovering HLVRAI back in like late-ish August 2020
The time I properly got and fell into Half-Life rabbit hole is when I saw Black Mesa going on sale on like late September and played it as soon as I got my current gaming laptop (yeah I may play the original version one day don't get mad at me)
I definitely fell in love with the series as soon as I finished Black Mesa and like, I think it was like a few days after when I decided to buy the Orange Box because I was feeling some HL withdrawal LMAO
I was about 12 around the time Half-Life 2 came out, and I was watching TechTV/G4 around the time of the game's release, so I saw a lot of their coverage of it. I didn't get to play it then, but it looked really cool, so it was just this weird thing that sort of stuck at the back of my mind for years. Then, on fateful day in high school, I finally got a hold of a copy of the Orange Box for PS3, and the rest is history.
The first time I can recall seeing anything half life related was back in my FNaF phase. I saw this animation that crossed Half-Life 2 with Five Nights at Freddy’s. iirc it took place during the 7 hour war. I was long out of my FNaF phase before I got into Half-Life tho. I think I bought Half Life 2 a year before Half Life Alyx. The rest is history.
Nothing special. When Half-Life Alyx got released, I saw a YouTuber whose content wasn't gaming but he decided to play it on Valve Index and he said that this series, called Half-Life, hasn't got a sequel for more than 10 years! So, I said before I watch him play it, I might as well play all the games in the series and I did and watched its playthrough and the whole experience was 👌🏻👌🏻!
This was so good as it made me get to play more Valve games like Portal! ❤️
I remember me and my brother watching my dad play it on the og xbox back in the day, and it kind of stuck in my head ever since as this mystical mysterious thing. I then remembered watching my brother play Portal 2 on the 360 later in my life, until eventually I was introduced to the whole franchise (sort of) through G-Mod. And then I remember getting into the whole series after hearing rumours of a VR game possibly being announced soon, and I just OBSESSED MYSELF with it after that.
i never really now what was half life i had gmod but i did not know but one of my friends had hl2 and i asked my mom one day to buy it and i got it and played the whole thing
From watching GMod Machinimas on Youtube in 2011. Mostly was interested in GMod and Portal. I found out Half-Life and Portal had a shared universe after Portal 2's release, so I bought the Half-Life Complete bundle on Steam.

You reminded me of my own fnaf phase, ugh
My first time was so long ago I don't even remember it.
If people are going to keep asking this question, then I should probably save my answer somewhere.
My friends played it at school
